BURCH, PORTER AND JOHNSON LAW OFFICES

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE

The client’s objective was to construct a new 5-story, 25,000 square foot office building to accommodate a growing law firm in downtown Memphis. The new building completely occupies the 5,000 square foot site on Court Square, and is connected at each floor to the historic Goodbar and Tennessee Club Buildings, which had been renovated by James Williamson, AIA, some years earlier. The Tennessee Club, constructed in 1892, is a Memphis landmark -- noted for its Byzantine styling.

Programmatic requirements included private offices for 36 attorneys, conference rooms, library, secretarial and paralegal office space, files and restrooms. The $3 million project is designed for construction in two phases, so as to keep pace with the firm’s projected growth pattern. The third and fourth floors are “shelled in” to provide for this future expansion.

Construction was completed in the fall of 2000.
