CATHERINE THE GREAT
MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE

Wonders, the Memphis International Cultural Series, an art and educational exhibit series jointly sponsored by the City of Memphis and private donors, curated an exhibition on "Catherine the Great."

The objective of these designs was to transform a stark and unappealing 25,000 square foot convention center hall into a setting that is appropriate for the display of the various artifacts presented.  By creating architectural spaces that alluded to the style and historic period of the subject matter, the experience of the visitor was greatly enhanced.  Research into the various detail components led to design solutions for the presentation that would transport the visitors to the time and place where the artifacts originated.

The scope of each project included the design of the galleries with their architectural detailing, the design of all the display cases including in-wall vignettes, the object graphics and signage, the artifact mounts, the lighting and photomurals.  The Catherine the Great exhibition received an AIA Tennessee design award.
