LAUDERDALE COUNTY REGIONAL LIBRARY

RIPLEY, TENNESSEE

The new library for Lauderdale County is designed both to meet immediate needs and to provide for future expansion as funding allows.  The 4,500 square foot Phase I consists of a main reading room plus sections for reference, local history, genealogy, periodicals and children.  A multipurpose room seatS 25-30 persons for community meetings and special programs and is available for off-hours use.  Phase II will expand the reading areas by an additional 4,500 square feet.

The simple, straightforward massing of the new library recalls the indigenous architectural forms of West Tennessee, while the high ceilings, exposed roof trusses, and tall windows of the main reading room lend a civic quality to the space.  Exterior materials include brick, wood windows, and a standing seam metal roof.
